SUKKUR, Oct 24: The judge, anti-terrorism court No2, Sukkur and Larkana, Mohammad Riaz Rajput, on Friday awarded capital punishment to the accused in the murder case of Dr Mumtaz Ali Khoso, a private practitioner of Golimar Road, Sukkur.
The court awarded double death penalty to Madad Ali and Akhtar Ali, sons of Mehrab Khoso, and Asghar, son of Umer, and five years rigorous imprisonment. They were also fined Rs20,000 each, default of which would lead to further RI of two months.
Co-accused Suhrab, Nizamuddin and Imamuddin were sentenced for life with Rs50,000 fine each to be paid to the legal heirs of the deceased. In default of payment, the accused would undergo further imprisonment of six months.
The court has further sentenced the convicts to pay Rs100,000 each to the heirs of the deceased. In case of default, they have to undergo further imprisonment of two years.
Madad Ali and Akhtar Ali were present in the court at the time of the verdict while Asghar, Suhrab, Imamuddin and Nizamuddin were convicted in absentia. The sentences, however, start concurrently.
On Jan 10, Dr Mumtaz Ali Khoso was standing outside his clinic at Golimar Road, Sukkur, when the convicts opened fire on him which resulted in his death.
PRICE BODY: The district coordination officer, Sukkur, Mohammad Mubeen Khan, held a meeting of the District Price Control Committee at his Office on Thursday.
He directed the Market Committee officers to gear up their efforts to ensure the sale of essential items at the fixed rates, particularly during the holy month of Ramazan.
