COPENHAGEN, Dec 26: Denmark’s Queen Margrethe broke two ribs in a fall suffered at her holiday home in the coastal city of Aarhus on Wednesday, the Danish news agency Ritzau reported quoting the royal palace.

The queen, 61, was taken to hospital where x-rays showed the breaks, on her left side, were not serious, the agency said.

The monarch was however ordered to rest for a week.

The palace said Queen Margrethe’s annual address to the nation would go ahead as planned on New Year’s Eve, and no engagements would be cancelled as a result of her injuries.—AFP
