GUJRANWALA: Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Syed Faizul Hasan handed down on Saturday life term to Bilal in a blasphemy case.

According to the prosecution, Bilal desecrated the Holy Quran in Kamoki in 2013. The complainant in the case was his father, Wakeel Husain.

BOOKED: Up to 200 people were booked, 40 of them nominated, by the city police for blocking GT Road and deteriorating the law and order situation on Saturday.

The Shia community resorted to road blockade when the district government banned the entry of religious leader Allama Karamat Ali Shah, of Karachi, for majalis at Haidari underpass.

The city superintendent of police, Tahir Maqsood Cheena, negotiate with the protesters but in vain.

Later, Model Town police registered a case against them under Section 16 MPO, and 506, 431, 147 and 148 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

KILLED: A bicyclist, Munner, 35, was run over by a bus on Hafizabad Road on Saturday.

Police arrested bus driver Shauket Ali and registered a case against him.

CASE: Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Imtiaz Ahmad recorded on Saturday the statement of investigation officer Muhammad Qasim and witness Fazal Ahmad in the murder case of Daska bar president Rana Khalid Abbas and another lawyer Irfan Chohan and adjourned the hearing till Oct 20.

ELECTED: Three candidates for union council (UC) chairman and vice chairman and 66 for general councilors have been elected unopposed.

According to district election cell sources, candidates for two UC chairman and vice chairman and 16 general councilors from the city while one candidate for UC chairman and vice chairman and 38 general councilors of district council were elected unopposed.

Up to 336 candidates for UC chairman and vice chairman and 1,456 for general councilors of city are still in the run. Up to 453 aspirants for chairman and vice chairman and 1,728 general councillors of district counsel union councils are still in field.

Six women are also contesting for chairman and vice chairman slots in the city area.
