HYDERABAD, Oct 22: Sindh Water Committee president Rasool Bux Palijo has condemned the decision of the authority concerned to discard the 1991 water accord and distribute water among the provinces according to the 1994 decision of the ministerial committee.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said although the people of Sindh had also reservations regarding the 1991 accord but the authorities had even failed to implement what he called an unjust accord.

Mr Palijo, who is also the chief of the Awami Tehrik and a leader of the Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee, accused Punjab of violating water accords and agreements and criticized the Centre for always supporting the province.

He said the people of Sindh were on the roads on the water issue and added that they had the support of the people of the NWFP and Balochistan.

He said the Sindhi people would hold a referendum on water projects by attending the anti-Thal canal public meeting, to be held in Hyderabad on Oct 23, in a large number.

STPP: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has criticized the rulers for going ahead with construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects.

He was talking to party activists at the Taraqqi Pasand House here on Tuesday.

He appealed to the people to attend the anti-Thal canal and Kalabagh dam meeting on Oct 23 to foil conspiracies of vested interests against the province.

Dr Magsi said the people of the Frontier and Balochistan were also against the construction of the disputed water projects.

He reminded the government that assemblies of three provinces had rejected the Kalabagh dam project.
