KASUR: Police on Saturday arrested a man conducting a survey regarding the upcoming local bodies election and collecting data about “favourite candidates” in each union council.

Worker of a political party, Mirza Naseemul Hasan, submitted an application to the district Election Commission, saying an agent of a non-government organisation (NGO) was collecting data regarding the favourite local government candidates through a door-to-door survey, claiming the practice was against the Election Commission of Pakistan rules.

The Election Commission summoned the returning officer concerned and called for a legal action.

On the complaint of RO Rana Tajamal Husain (Ward No 1 to 17), B-Division police arrested surveyor Ali Murtaza and recovered “survey material” from him.

The “suspect” told police he was hired for conducting the survey by an NGO that was working in the entire district.

The forms recovered from Murtaza bear ‘FOP INF 15/3/2013 Government of Punjab, Information and Culture Department.’

Police were yet undecided about the sections under which an FIR should be registered.
