KARACHI, Oct 16: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Thursday directed that successful computerization of revenue records in five districts of Sindh should be emulated in other districts.
He also issued directives for complete computerization of the city survey in Karachi.
He was presiding over a meeting held at the Governor’s House in connection with the computerization of revenue records.
The governor will inspect the computerized revenue record in Hyderabad on October 30. The computerization work was started as a pilot project in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur and larkana. In the concerned districts the collection of revenue will start on the basis of computerization of record from Kharif-2003.
The governor expressed the hope that with computerization of revenue record, not only the revenue collection would come under a transparent system, but the property record too would be secured against irregularities and forgery.
The meeting was informed that after computerization, the compiled record would also be available on the Internet. The governor called for training of concerned staff in that regard and an early functionalization of the Revenue Academy.
Under the Pilot Project, Rs 30.14 million have been spent on computerization of revenue record of five districts while five million rupees were allocated for training.
After this initial expenditure, the computerization of record of the remaining districts will cost only Rs49 million in the second phase. In the third phase, the record of the city government would be completed.
As a result of computerization, the discretionary powers of Tapedars and other revenue staff would be done away with and Zamindars and growers could deposit revenue under a transparent system.
FUND FOR ARTISTS: The governor has instituted an endowment fund for the welfare and financial assistance of artists and announced a Rs2 million contribution from him.
He announced the establishment of the fund while speaking as chief guest at an award distribution ceremony organized by the Press, Publication and Library Committee of the Arts Council of Pakistan to honour Chairman Pakistan Stage Promoters, Salahuddin Toofani, at the Arts Council premises on Wednesday night.
The Governor, while eulogising the services rendered by artists for the promotion of art and culture, directed the provincial culture department to resolve the problems of artists and provide financial assistance to those unable to organize shows due to financial constraints. “It is for them that this fund is being created, to cater to their needs,” he added. The governor also announced a Rs0.5 million grant for the proposed cultural city.
Earlier, Sindh Minister for Culture, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, and Advisor to Chief Minister on Information, Salahuddin Haider, also addressed the gathering. They distributed awards and certificates among the recipients, who included a number of journalists.
JOURNALIST: A Hyderabad journalist, Rasheed Jamal, was given a cheque for Rs50,000 for his treatment on behalf of the Sindh governor on Thursday.
Mr Jamal has been suffering from blindness, for which he has been examined at various hospitals. Doctors are optimistic about the restoration of his eyesight. The adviser to chief minister on information handed over the cheque at the Governor’s House.
