LAHORE, Oct 13: The Education UK department of the British Council, Lahore, on Monday started a week-long promotional campaign ‘Education UK Festival’ to guide on UK colleges as study destinations for 2004.

The British Council organized a University College Admission Syndicate (UCAS) workshop, the first event of the promotion campaign, at a local hotel to educate students about filling the UCAS form and selection of institutions in the UK.

Council’s education promotion manager Sayeda Akbar told workshop participants that the UCAS was a unquie service that allowed students to apply at one point for all selected colleges for admission to undergraduate classes. She also guided students about the selection of institutions in the UK.

The council is scheduled to organize a Catalogue Exhibition on Tuesday (today) to display Education UK promotional material for students to browse through and take home.

The exhibition will target students who have opted to go to the UK for higher education whether for a bachelor’s programme or a master’s programme.

The council’s recommended agents and institutions offering UK qualifications and UK universities’ representatives will also put up their stalls at the exhibition.

On Wednesday, the council will organize thematic presentations on law and business to develop awareness among students about the opportunities offered in both subjects in the UK.

Renowned UK alumni will conduct the presentations and share their expertise and knowledge gained from their experience in the UK with the participants.

The festival will conclude with a two-day ‘Students Counsellor workshop’ to be held on Oct 16 and 17. The workshop, specifically designed for student counsellors, aims to advise and guide counsellors of studying and living in Britain.

The workshop participants will be given information regarding available courses, accommodation arrangements, UK culture, medical facilities, climate, clothing, leisure activities and student-visa requirements.
