ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: Another 31 parliamentarians submitted the statements of assets and liabilities on Monday with the Election Commission.
With the submission of statements by 31 parliamentarians, so far 1,123 out of 1,170 Senators, MNAs and MPAs have submitted such statements.
By the close of office hours on the day, 13 parliamentarians submitted their statements at EC camp office Lahore and 18 at EC secretariat Islamabad.
The EC has set Oct 15 as deadline for submitting statements of assets and liabilities for the parliamentarians. Under the law, after the deadline is over, names of remaining law makers will be published in the official gazette.
According to the Election Commission, the members of the parliament and provincial assemblies were required to file their annual statements of assets and liabilities by Sept 30, 2003.
In order to facilitate the filing of statements of assets and liabilities by the members, Chief Election Commissioner, Chief Justice (R) Irshad Hasan Khan, and the secretary, EC remained present at the camp office at Lahore.
Members, who are yet to file annual statements of assets and liabilities may do so by Oct 15 (12 Noon).
The names of members, who fail to file statements of assets and liabilities shall be notified in the official gazette and such members shall cease to function as members of the assemblies and Senate till such statements are submitted.
Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976 and Section 25A of the Senate (election) Act, 1975 contemplates to all the remaining parliamentarians to submit their statements of assets and liabilities with the Election Commission within due time.—APP
