Pakistanis held in India begin fast

Published October 14, 2003

NEW DELHI, Oct 13: Thirteen former Pakistani prisoners, who are still being held at a transit camp in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan, have begun fasting over a delay in repatriating them, a news report said Monday.

New Delhi Television reported the fast began four days ago for the prisoners, who were officially released from prison after India’s SC directed the government to free all Pakistanis who had completed their prison terms. The prisoners were arrested on spying charges and kept in jails after their terms ended because the government contended that Pakistan was keeping Indians in prisons after their terms ended.—dpa
