LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed five cooking oil units and had seven people arrested in the Chowki Crawl area after it found the workers extracting oil from dead animals fats on Saturday.
The PFA team was led by its Director (Operations) Ayesha Mumtaz. Cases have also been registered against units’ owners, said a press release.
PFA Iqbal Town team imposed a heavy fine on Bahria Grand Hotel at Bahria Town over poor hygiene and Bahria Food Court due to incomplete labeling, missing expiry dates on masala and broken freezer.
Fine was also imposed on Subway, Bahria Town Branch and Shan Barbecue, Raiwind Road, due to poor hygiene.
Ravi Town team imposed fine on Gourmet Bakers at Qila Muhammadi on a public complaint besides fine on Pak Kashmir Hotel, Faisal Hotel and Naeem Café.
In Samanabad, the PFA fined Butt Sweets. In Gulberg Town, it imposed fine on, Pizza Hut and Baba Gee Food. The team sealed production unit of Taj Mahal Sweets at Liaqatabad.
Nishtar Town team sealed Khwaja Murrabajaat Factory in the Kot Lakhpat area and seized 50,000kg of Murraba (preserved food) besides getting an FIR lodged against the owners.
The Punjab Food Authority teams in Wagah and Aziz Bhatti towns sealed an unnamed shop from where milkmen used to purchase powder to make artificial milk at Jallo Morr. Shalimar Town team imposed fine on NN Grill at Nakhuda Chowk and Special Cakes on the GT Road.
Data Ganj Bakhsh town’s team sealed Annayat Moti Choor Laddu House at New Anarkali and imposed fine on Butt Karahi Tikka Family Restaurant, Lakshmi Chowk, for placing chicken on floor.
It sealed Al-Nakhal Restaurant, Racecourse.

Thanks to renowned columnist Mr.Hasan Nisar who had been highlighting since long the negligence of the central and provincial governments for not paying any attentions to the heinous crime of adulteration of food and medicines.
I am also grateful to print and electronic media for their eye-opening programs on this crucial subject.
Hope other provinces will follow suit.
I wish that the Drug Regulatory Authority wake up from COMA and do something for the safety of the general public.

Besides proscution their photographs, nd brief profile may be provided to print/electronic media to show it to general public. Also to put this information on web site.Sindh,nd Baluchistan, may be uninterested in taking such steps against adulteration so jurisdiction of PFA, may be extended to other provinces also for public benefits. All folks be assured tirade against malnutrition will mitigate their health sufferings. If this campaign continues for one year,people will observe significant decrease in diseases.

@REFORM Punjab Food Authority PFA is working under provincial government, hence their powers can not be extended to other provinces.It is duty of Chief Ministers of the other provinces to develop food authorities at their provinces like Punjab to provide better facilities of hygienic food to their people. Not only this, but taking one more step in advance, consumer councils may be constituted to increase awareness and education to people of their provinces with regards to adulteration. In this connection print / social media should play their pivotal role to educate masses. But sorry to say, approach of other three Provincial Chief Ministers is reactive rather than pro-active to provide better health and hygien/food facilities to public. Chief Minister of Sindh is a veteran politician but over aged and not fully capable to run administration of his province efficiently and deligentely.

Can't trust any name brand food or Masala from pakistan.

The Punjab Government should come up with a new definition of criminal for prosecution as "FOOD TERRORISTS." Their names, addresses, and criminal (food) activities should be published and publicized through electronic and print media as well social media. It can never happen in Karachi, as a couple of months ago 'Ab Tak' media team was attacked and mauled by 'Lal Qila Restaurant' in Karachi and no LEA came to their rescue. A young girl was killed after having a burger from 'Dilpasand Sweets' no government authority came forward to perform its legitimate duty. However, the customers (people of Pakistan) are still quarreling with each other as who will be the first in the entrance line of these 'renowned' eateries. Same as they vote for the same old wine presented in new attractive bottles. Chow! Chow! Chow!.......................

Greetings from India!!! Food adulteration is the worst crime to mankind. We (general people of India and Pakistan) trust and feed it to our children thinking that they will grow stronger. Seldom we know that we are feeding them poison with our own hands.. By the way some politicians with their palms greased by those unit owners will say we see foreign hands (read RAW) in this. We want investigator of our choice..

I stopped using the shakar from HANDI brand made in pakistan after discovering human hair in it.Alsi stopped eating the pani puri from india after discovering hair in the gol gappas.Both countries have a problem in manufacturing clean products.No wonder the West advisory to its tourist is taken seriously.

By in large, people from Indian Subcontinent are alien to hygienic practices and norms. If the inspectors starts visiting the kitchens of average households, I bet 80% of houses would have to be sealed.
As a matter of fact, even if they take a simple 101 hygiene test of PM Nawaz or PM Modhi, I can guarantee they both would miserably fail.
Solution: Build capacity of the mothers to train their kids to remain clean in all circumstances. One simple practice they can introduce in house is to enforce washing hands 10 times a day and see the difference when they grow up...
