ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: The Election Commission said on Friday the legislators who failed to submit their statements of assets and liabilities will cease to function from October 15.

A special meeting of the Election Commission has been convened on Monday to prepare a list of legislators who so far have not filed their yearly statements of assets and liabilities as required under the law.

An Election Commission annoucement said that 79 parliamentarians, including senators, MNAs and MPAs had not submitted statements of their assets, and liabilities. So far, 1,092 senators, MNAs and MPAs had submitted the statements.

The name of Finance Minister Senator Shaukat Aziz is not among those who have submitted their statements.

“All those senators, MNAs and MPAs who have not so far filed their statements of assets and liabilities will cease to function as senators or members of assemblies on the issuance of the notification by the Election Commission of Pakistan on October 15, 2003.”

The CEC advised senators and MNAs and MPAs who had not complied with the mandatory provisions of the law uptil now, to avoid penal consequence of their ceasing to be parliamentarians.

The EC said no statement of assets and liabilities would be received /entertained through telefax. These must be filed by the members concerned personally or through their authorized representatives.
