SAHIWAL: A five-member Punjabi folk singers’ troupe of Chichawatni’s ‘Toti Sabri Group’ has left for Indian Punjab via Wagah Border.

The delegation will perform along with Indian folk singers in ‘Indo-Pak Music Concert for Peace and Harmony’ at Ishmeet Singh Music Institute, Ludhiana, on Thursday (today). It has been invited by the Punjabi Sabhiyachar Akademi (PSA), Ludhiana for music concert.

PSA President Dr S. N. Sewak told Dawn on phone that it’s a registered body which promotes the Punjabi language, art and culture in Indian Punjab.

Israr Faridi, a senior member of the troupe, told Dawn that ‘Toti Sabri group’ had been attached with folk music and theatre for decades. The group has been named after Israr’s father Toti Sabri.

Pakistani singers Mohsin Ali and Israr Faridi will perform with their Indian counterparts Sargam, Manpreet Sagar, Rashpal Sagar, Tanisq Kaur Anand and Jagwinder Singh. Jasbir Kour, Department of Music, Punjabi University Patiyala, Om Gauri Dutt Sharma, Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, Dr Charam Kamal Singh, Director, ISMI, and Dr Kulwinder K. Minhas, General Secretary, PSA, will speak on the occasion.

Ghulam Farid and Qammar Hussain will perform on tabla and flute.
