MARDAN, Oct 9: The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, NWFP chapter, has demanded that the provincial government should fulfil its commitment regarding solution to the problems of contract doctors.

It welcomed the formation of a committee by Chief Minister Mohammed Akram Khan Durrani for sorting out the issues and expressed the hope that the matter would be settled soon.

Speaking at a press conference, the association’s provincial chief Dr Abdul Aziz Zia said contract doctors had been performing their duties for eight years but despite assurance by the government about their permanent posting and other facilities, they were being deprived of their rights.

He demanded the inclusion of a representative of the district specialists in the doctors’ committee formed by the provincial assembly.

He demanded the registration of the Gomal and Saidu medical colleges.

He expressed anguish over the harassment of teachers and students of the Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, and urged the authorities to withdraw the cases against them.

He said the association’s teams had served in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq.
