KARACHI, Oct 9: The Rangers were called in at the Dow Medical College on Thursday, for an unspecified period, to ‘monitor security and academic atmosphere’ in the college.
The college administration also announced the closure of the college till Oct 15.
Sources in the college said that in the wake of recent incidents of dowdyism and violent activities carried out allegedly by some students’ organizations, the college authorities had sought support from their high ups for maintaining law and order at the college.
Following approval by the Health department and other concerned, the Rangers had been deployed at the entry points and some other places within the college campus, said the DMC Principal, Dr S Tipu Sultan, on Thursday.
He said that the college had been closed till Oct 15 but the Rangers would stay at the college till further order.
It was totally unacceptable that the writ of college administration be undermined by any quarter, he added, saying that now the Rangers would monitor the visitors as well as the college students, and allow only the authorized persons to enter the college.
