LAHORE,  Oct 7: Terms and conditions for the two new Classic events, Pakistan Oaks and Pakistan St. Leger, introduced  during the  ongoing Lahore Winter Meetings has been announced by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) on Tuesday.

A notification issued by the LRC said that Pakistan Oaks 2003 will be a term race for four-year-old Pakistani fillies foaled in 1999 to be run over 2000m at the Lahore Racecourse on Nov 23.

The last date for the entries for the event will be Oct 15. All acceptors will carry eight stones seven pounds (8-7) weight in handicap

Pakistan St. Leger 2003 will be a term race for four-year-old Pakistani colts and fillies foaled in 1999. It will be held on Dec 7 and contested over the distance of 2000m.

 The colts will carry Nine Stones (9-0) weight while the fillies will be entitled to three pounds allowance and carry eight stones eleven pounds (8-11). The entries for the event will close on Oct 15.

The notification, however, declared that in case the entries for both the events are less, the race will be at the option of the LRC stewards, who will decide whether to let the events run or not.

Meanwhile, one of the leading jockeys of Pakistan, M. Hanif, who has been engaged by an English trainer left for London on Tuesday to take up his assignment.

Hanif was declared the best rider in Lahore last year. He had gone to England on a similar assignment in April this year but returned home last month due to some pressing domestic work.

While in Lahore Hanif rode in races and won four events. He has signed a new contract with trainer R. Hennen for the current racing season in England.

He is among very few Pakistani riders, who have got the chance of working for the stables of English trainers. Shahid Rehman is on top of them.
