KARACHI, Oct 7: Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has said that a master plan was being drafted for the development projects in the province to provide basic amenities to the masses.

He was talking to the Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly, Rahila Tiwana, who called on him at the CM House on Tuesday.

Pledging to serve the people of Sindh without any discrimination, the CM said that his government did not believe in bias. He reaffirmed that the government was determined to crush the elements involved in disturbing peace with iron hand.

Ms Tiwana emphasized the need for an early initiation of development works in backward areas of the province. She called for the establishment of government girls schools in such areas.

Mr Mahar and Ms Tiwana also expressed their grief and sorrow over the assassination of Maulana Azam Tariq. The CM held out the assurance that those involved in the killing would not be spared.

RAMAZAN: Issues relating to the maintenance of sanctity of Ramazan, prevention of profiteering and hoarding, law and order and many other subjects came under discussion at a high level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar, here on Tuesday.

Mr Mahar sounded a clear warning that profiteering and hoarding of essential commodities during the holy month would not be tolerated. On the occasion, he asked the officials to take strict action against such elements.

He ordered full implementation of the Ehteram Ramazanul Mubarak Ordinance and a stern action against the violators.

Mr Mahar stressed that prices of all essential items, like food, fruits, vegetables, chicken meat, etc., should be kept under regulation during the month.

In this regard, powers be vested in DDOs (revenue) to take on the spot action against violators, he added.

The district Nazims and DCOs were asked to organize Bachat Bazaars in important towns of their districts to ensure availability of essential items, including fruits, vegetables, drinks and other eatables, at reduced prices. Such bazaars may be organized in all the 18 towns of Karachi, the CM said.

He further directed the officials that an uninterrupted supply of water and power during the holy month be ensured to avoid any inconvenience to the fast-observing people. In this regard, special directives were issued to the KESC authorities. They were asked to make sure that there was no interruption in power supply from 5pm onward in particular. They have also been directed not to enforce loadshedding during the month.

The CM asked police and other law-enforcement agencies to ensure maintenance of law and order during the month and maintain a special vigil around mosques, Imambargahs and public places throughout the province.

He said that Rangers be kept on full alert during the month and a monitoring cell be established in CM House with telephone No. ‘786’ to enable people lodge their complaints.

He also called for activating the Consumer Protection Council and preparation of an effective strategy for the purpose.
