KARACHI, Oct 7: Adviser to Sindh chief minister on local government Waseem Akhtar said on Tuesday that with the completion of Lyari Expressway, major traffic bottlenecks in Karachi would be resolved.

It would also help avert losses on the river-bed which earlier used to occur due to rains.

Presiding over a meeting in connection with the resettlement of the affectees of Lyari Expressway Project and provisions of facilities to them, Waseem Akhtar directed that the affectees should not be shifted unless arrangements for their proper resettlement are made.

He said that action would be taken if any injustice was done to anyone.

The Project Director, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, said that Lyari Expressway was being built on a 34 km belt and alternative housing facility was being provided to the affectees in phases. Each family, he said, was being provided 80 square yards plots in Hawkesbay, Baldia and Malir Town and Rs50,000 cash was also being offered to them.

He said that 612 acres are needed to build 14,811 housing units in which a family of 16 persons can be accommodated.

He informed that presently 165 acres is available in Hawkesbay Scheme No. 42 and so far 3,850 allotments have been granted and over 1,123 families have been settled.

He said that so far 3,969 allotment orders have been issued.
