PESHAWAR, Oct 12: The NWFP governor Lt-Gen (retd) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Friday drove around the city, without any protocol, visiting various areas to see for himself the law and order situation.
He visited areas where various religious parties were expected to hold protest rallies and demonstrations against US strikes on Afghanistan. The entire city was sealed by the law enforcement agencies to cope with any eventuality.
The people were taken by surprise in Khyber Bazaar when they saw the governor. He later drove to Lady Reading Hospital where chief secretary, and administrator of the hospital were waiting for him.
The governor inspected the site, damaged due to fire that erupted the previous night in the hospital. The administrator briefed the governor about the losses incurred due to fire.
The governor ordered an enquiry into the matter.
The governor, later, visited various densely populated areas like Qissa Khwani, Asamai Gate, Shuba Bazaar and Namak Mandi and monitored the situation.
He said, to overcome the problem of law and order, a crises management centre had been established.—APP
