Parrikar not to speak to media for six months

PANAJI: Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar who has recently been in the limelight for his controversial statements has decided not to talk to the media for at least six months, according to a report published on the NDTV website.
Parrikar had recently made the headline when he expressed his faith in the “neutralising terrorists through terrorists only” theory.
His statements were widely condemned within and outside India.

"I will not speak much. Because if I speak, people start looking for things," NDTV quoted the Indian defence minister as saying.
He expressed these views when asked to comment on target killings in the Kashmir region and the Rafale fighter jet deal.
He categorically denied to make any sort of comment and said that he would not speak to the media for six months.
Parrikar, who is also the ex chief minister of Goa state, has been camping in the state for the last several days.
The minister also complained of media and alleged that the media illogically scrutinises his speeches in an excessive manner.

Why blame media when Mr. Parrikar's own party leaders are disappointed with his off-the-cuff remarks? Leaders should act like statesmen and peaceniks instead of fanning brinkmanship.

He leaked that India is supporting terrorists. It is the first country to publicly acknowledge that it is a terrorist sponsoring state. The whole world should be aware of India's tactics and boycott them.

Any way it is a good decision by him.Reasons are obvious that he was looking after
a tiny state government and his experience was limited,and he being much less
exposed to diplomatic things,his limitations to understand Defence so soon,and
impatience to show one upmanship.Six months period is enough,but better advised
to keep mum as much as possible even after that.Work is more important than talk.

He is the most honest and down to earth politician I have ever seen. Back when he was the chief minister of Goa state, he personally came to each home in my neighborhood to take feedback for the scheme he had launched for underprivileged girl children in the state. I have seen him multiple times attending weddings and functions wearing simple clothes, sitting among the people and bowing to elders. I have had massive respect for him ever since. No wonder he is one of the top ministers in Modi cabinet.

I am glad that he has decided to keep quiet. His recent utterances have been appalling and not in keeping with the polish and sophistication that is expected from a minister occupying such a high post. Perhaps he should keep quiet for the rest of his tenure. It will be a great service to India.
