hLAYYAH: A man thrashed his wife and when she fell unconscious due to the beating he hanged her to death with a tree to make it look like a suicide case in Sohiya Thal in the Kot Sultan area.
The victim was identified as Hattan Bibi. She was given in marriage as Vani to her husband Abdul Majeed by a panchayat after his sister eloped with her brother three years back.
Abdullah, a local villager, said Hattan was 10 years older than Majeed and he had contracted marriage with her only in revenge. They had a two-year old daughter.
Majeed wanted to contract second marriage with another woman but Hattan did not give him permission to do so.
On Monday, he killed Hattan and told police that she had committed suicide.
The investigation officer of Kot Sultan police visited the crime scene and collected evidence which proved that Hattan had not committed suicide. During interrogation, Majeed confessed to killing her.
Police have registered a case against Majeed and his brother Ghulam Fareed and put both of them behind bars.

very sad and horrifying but similar crimes happen all over the world. Domestic abuse is a big problem in the west which results in women being killed every week.

What poor luck this woman had. First she was made to marry as Vani, she had no choice and was given off like cattle so settle a debt, and then this "Man" goes and kills her. Stories like these remind me of horror stories when Ghosts come back to haunt people for their miserable lives.
May she find peace in the after life, as she had none in this world. And may this Man, rot in a jail cell and in the here after.

This is very strange. He needed her permission to take another wife and couldn't because she refused? First of all, no woman can object to a second marriage by her husband, because she knows he will immediately divorce her if she doesn't agree. Secondly, these are people who don't give a damn what women think. He could have taken another wife without her permission and without divorcing her, and she wouldn't have had the nerve to go to the cops with a complaint against her husband.

This system of justice is ill-legal and unconstitutional, and still it is allowed to be functional. It is totally shameful and unacceptable. When Islam allows person to marry some one of their own free will, then who the hell is panchayat to decide what is right or wrong. Pakistan needs to get done away with these barbaric customs, otherwise the days are not near when Pakistan will be drowned in dark ages.

Ban panchayat justice..or regularise them by appointing only learned judges to mediate in them..there cant be 2 laws in one land... laws made by parliament is supreme and supersedes all local laws

So sad. What was the offence of the deceased lady? She was punished twice for others' action. Firstly, so-called panchait gave her in Vani to Majeed which is against the rule of the land. And secondly, she was beaten to death leaving a two year old daughter. Why they baby was orphaned? What was her crime? State should give replies to these questions and solutions.

Only thing that can save us is real education and I do not mean bunch of people walking around with SSC and HSC diplomas. I mean real mind opening education, where one can recognize good and evil, right from wrong.
Politicians, sardars, and vaderas do not want it. That is why they would rather use ghost schools as stables for cattles.
