TIMERGARA: A group of women on Friday demonstrated at Odigram Bridge in Munjai area here against the area elders and political workers for barring them from voting in the recently concluded local body elections. A total of 13 women took part in the protest.

Talking to mediapersons the protesting women said they tried to cast their votes on May 30, but local elders and political workers didn’t let them do so. They said they had come out of their houses but were barred from voting.

The women demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to declare the election null and void as they were not allowed to participate in voting process.

Similarly, six women on Thursday, while addressing a news conference at the Timergara Press Club demanded of the ECP to declare the election in Koto Hajiabad ward as null and void as they were kept away from voting on May 30.

Another protest was held by women in the village of provincial Minister for Finance Muzafar Syed the other day, where the protesters led by a losing PTI candidate, alleged that they had tried on the poll day to cast their votes but the election staff didn’t allow them to do so.

Meanwhile, Qaumi Watan party senior leader Bakht Baidar Khan, while rejecting results of LG polls in Lower Dir, demanded of the ECP to announce re-polling in the district.

Speaking at a news conference at Chakdara he alleged that polls were rigged by candidates of ruling coalition partners and the election staff.

PPP leader Mohammad Zamin also on Friday alleged that polls were rigged in Maidan area and demanded re-polling.

STUDENT STRANGULATED: A student of the Timergara Mircosoft College and Medical Institute was found dead at his hostel room on Thursday night.

According to Timergara police, the student identified as Fazal Rehman of Maskini Darra was allegedly strangulated by his roommate Sirajuddin of Pashat area of Bajaur Agency.

A police official told Dawn that they took the body to the DHQ hospital where the doctors confirmed that the student had been strangulated.

Police claimed to have arrested the suspect who confessed to his crime. The suspect told police that the deceased had been teasing his family on phone. The police registered a case and began further investigations.
