ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: The accounts of three cooperative housing societies have been frozen, the deputy commissioner Islamabad, Tariq Mehmood Pirzada, said.

Talking to Dawn, the deputy commissioner said these societies were Islamabad Cooperative Housing Society, National Assembly Cooperative Housing Society and Ministry of Interior Employees Cooperative Housing Society.

He said all other housing societies had come under surveillance so that fake societies could be detected.

Responding to a question about the recent increase in the prices of plots in the capital, the deputy commissioner said the rates of plots had become stable after action against the three housing societies.

He said development work in genuine cooperative housing societies in the federal capital would not be hindered.

He said only fake housing societies would be discouraged so that the hard-earned money of innocent people could not be looted.

“If we create problems for genuine cooperative housing societies, the money invested by the people would become unsafe,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the Action Committee of Cooperative Housing Societies Islamabad claimed that 11 housing societies in Zone-II had the required land and approved site plans.

In a press conference held here on Wednesday, some office- bearers of the committee said these 11 housing societies were National Police Foundation (E-11), Multi-Professional Cooperative Housing Society (E-11), Medical Cooperative Housing Society (E- 11), Services Cooperative Housing Society (E-11), Federation Cooperative Housing Society (E-11), Ahbab Cooperative Housing Society (E-11), Jammu Kashmir Cooperative Housing Society (E-11, G-16), Ministry of Interior Employees Cooperative Housing Society (G-16), Supreme Court Employees Cooperative Housing Society (E- 11), Multi-Professional Cooperative Housing Society (E-17) and Cabinet Division Employees Cooperative Housing Society (E-16, E- 17).

The office-bearers said these housing societies had mortgaged their land and site plan for several years to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

They said the relevant Tehsildar had certified their land which was on the CDA’s record, but the authority had not issued the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to them.

The defunct army monitoring team in the CDA had already cleared these housing societies. They were of the view that about 10 housing societies in Zone-V had completed development work and houses had been constructed there despite the fact that the CDA had not issued the NOC to these societies.

These housing societies are Civilians Employees Cooperative Housing Society (Soan Garden), Commoners Town Old Citizen Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Korang Town Federal Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Pakistan Town Employees Cooperative Housing Society, PWD Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Police Foundation Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Doctors Cooperative Housing Society, AGPR Cooperative Housing Society, CBR Cooperative Housing Society and Naval Encourage Housing Society.
