KASUR, Oct 1: A-Division police have registered a case against a police post sub-inspector and a constable, who allegedly picked up a goldsmith and deprived him of cash and gold ornaments worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
The case has been registered on the orders of District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ahsan Ahmad.
Police said Sub-Inspector Khalid Aslam, in-charge Lorry Adda police post, and constable Hakim Ali went to Muhammad Naeem’s jewellery shop at Sarafan bazaar and took him to the post.
The constable allegedly snatched Rs19,350 in cash, a gold ring, gold chain and wrist watch from him. The two policemen also alleged to have tortured him and demanded Rs20,000 from him to secure release. On his refusal, however, they registered a case against him.
Naeem secured bail from a local court after which he moved an application to the district and sessions judge, who ordered the A-Division police to register a case against the two police officials. The two suspects are at large.
BOYCOTT: The District Contractors Association has boycotted the government contracts to protest “apathy” of the highway department.
Haji Muhammad Asghar Dukhi, president of the association, said at a press conference held at his office on Wednesday that the rates given in the contracts were beyond the reach of the common contractors. He also said these contracts had been issued without conducting a survey.
The highway department, he said, had approved the payment of soil lifting within two miles without realising that soil was not available within this limit.
