ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: The tax authorities collected Rs94.18 billion during the first quarter (July-September) of the current financial year against Rs90.35 billion collected during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.23 per cent.

Central Board of Revenue official spokesman Vakil Ahmad Khan told Dawn on Wednesday night that the revenue collection under sales tax declined by seven per cent and central excise duty by 6.5 per cent during the first quarter, over the same period of last year.

He said the customs duty registered a growth of 35 per cent and income tax by seven per cent during the July-September period, over the same period of last year.

Further analysis showed the CBR collected Rs25.45 billion under the head of direct taxes in the first quarter against Rs23.59 billion of last year, showing a growth of seven per cent.

The tax authorities collected Rs41.6 billion under the head of sales tax during the same period under review against Rs43.781 billion of last year, showing a decline of seven per cent.

The CBR collected Rs18.107 billion under the head of customs during the July-September period against Rs13.359 billion over the corresponding period of last year, showing a decline of 35 per cent. It collected Rs9 billion under the head of central excise duty (CED) against Rs9.617 billion of last year, showing a decline of 6.5 per cent.
