KARACHI, Sept 29: Sri Lanka crush Pakistan by 94 runs on Monday to remain the only unbeaten side at the completion of first round matches in the triangular Emerging Team Trophy in Colombo.
According to details available here, Pakistan lost all hopes of winning after slipping to 89 for six, and were eventually sent packing for 157 in 36.2 overs.
Pakistan were also docked two overs for slow over rate during Sri Lanka’s innings of 251 for eight.
Young left-handed opening batsman Usman Tariq, however, batted well to strike nine boundaries on his way to 76 off 86 deliveries before he was seventh out at 139.
Wicket-keeper Amin-ur-Rehman was the only Pakistan batsman to make a significant contribution, scoring 25 off 45 balls until he was last out via a run out. Usman and Amin were involved in a stand of 50 for the seventh-wicket.
Lakshita ended up with four for 30 in 7.2 overs while Kulasekera and Malinga chipped in with two wickets each.
Sri Lanka, earlier after sent into bat, were well served by Nishad Paranavitana, who made 84, a contribution which earned him the Man-of-the-Match award.
Sri Lanka also benefited by lack of discipline in Pakistan bowling which yielded 48 extras, including a staggering 31 wides and seven no-balls.
Junaid and Qaiser, however, bowled well. Medium-pacer Junaid captured three for 41 in nine overs while Qaiser’s slow left-arm spin conceded just 28 runs in the same number of overs.
