WASHINGTON, Oct 12: An envelope containing a white powder was found in a mail room at the State Department, on Friday, spokesman Richard Boucher said.
Agents from the FBI were investigating, he said.
“At this time there is no cause for alarm,” a public address system announcement said.
Two days ago a suspicous white power was found in another envelope addressed to the department. Tests showed it did not contain anthrax.
BUSH: US President George W. Bush said the newly discovered anthrax case was a cause for “concern” but emphasized that the government was responding “quickly and forcefully.”
“We’re responding as quickly and forcefully as we can,” he said during a star-studded public appearance in the White House marking National Hispanic Heritage Month.—AFP
