Ex-minister dies

LAHORE: Former state minister for information and broadcasting Ahmed Saeed Awan died of heart attack on Thursday. He was 73.

His funeral prayers will be offered in Bhakkar district at 9am on Friday (today) where he will be laid to rest, say the family sources.

Saeed Awan was in his ancestral town in Bhakkar to see his family members where he suffered a heart attack soon after breakfast. He was rushed to hospital where doctors gave him initial medical care before referring him to Lahore, said his family sources. He died near Faisalabad while on way to Lahore. He had had a heart surgery last year.

He is survived by a widow and a daughter.

Ahmed Saeed Awan also remained the minister of state for industries during the first tenure of the late Benazir Bhutto as prime minister. He was a judge of the Lahore High Court in the 1990s.
