Sabbir stars as BCB XI stun Pakistan with one-wicket win

FATULLAH: Twenty-three-year-old Sabbir Rahman made sure Azhar Ali's first outing as the captain was an unforgettable one as Bangladesh Cricket Board XI defeated Pakistan by one-wicket in the tour match on Wednesday.
Batting first, Pakistan failed to capitalise on a solid opening stand to score 268/9 in their allotted 50 overs.
Mohammad Hafeez, making a comeback to the side, was the top scorer with 85 and found good support in Fawad Alam (67 not out).
The rest of the batting order failed to banish their World Cup blues and did not make any significant contributions.
Newly-appointed ODI captain Azhar Ali scored 27 off 49 balls with Haris Sohail making 23.
In response, the BCB XI stumbled in the opening stages of the chase before being rescued by the promising right-handed batsman Sabbir Rahman whose 99-ball 123 took the home side across the finishing line despite Pakistan fielding a full-strength bowling attack which included Junaid Khan, Saeed Ajmal and Wahab Riaz.
Sabbir found great support at the other end from Litton Das (22), Imrul Kayes (36) and Sohag Gazi (36) as BCB XI achieved the target in 48.5 overs.

We have shun our current habits and give merit a chance in team selection. There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan, but a team with several second grade players (Harris Sohail Wow) team cannot defeat anyone at the top level.

Haris Sohail isn't fit for ODIs. He has no shots, can't rotate and can't accelerate. He should be playing test cricket only. Like Haris, Pakistan has so many batsmen with maximum capacity of scoring in 20s and 30s and then fall. Let Rizwan play whole the series as we must unearth at least one new batsman in this series. Azhar needs to change his modes in ODIs and tests.

It is just a 13 side practice match where the teams get practice. The fact that 7 overs were bowled by part timers will not happen in a real international match. It was more important that all the batsmen and bowlers get some practice, otherwise if the openers score centuries in a practice match, the rest of the team doesn't get any practice.

3) Benching Sami Aslam
4) not using bowlers wisely, further shaking the confidence of Yasir Shah

Its Pakistan's faltered selection policy which will haunt Pakistan even against low rated teams like Bangladesh. Its like, we are now used to losing matches to district teams too. That's what happened to us in NZ too. How and on what parameters do you decide that Saad Nasim is a better allround player than Shoaib Malik or that Asad Shafiq with his average of 24 is the best choice to bat at 5? Ahmad Shehzad, Fawad, Umar Akmal and Sarfraz should be players who should automatically select themselves unless a new Inzmam is born. If you want to punish players, deduct their fee instead of making name of Pakistan suffer. Now I only hope that Rizwan, Sami and baber are given enough chances in this series.

@Ali Ather - exactly. Azhar Ali will score a lot when the openers go cheaply. Azhar will then have lots of overs to face and score a ton maybe from 200 balls. We will still loose the game. He is another tuk tuk which does not work in ODI. When the openers goes early they score a slow 50-70ish and if they openers give a good start they can not score even a 50 and thus we loose the game. You need winners and tuk tuk does not win these days.

@Yasir - Agreed that this was first chance for Azhar Ali and we should not judge him in one outing. But how much chance the board is going to give him. Five failures, ten failures or four years like Misbah. Remember Misbah lost us a W-t20, a WC and a champions trophy. Misbah never won a ODI series against strong opposition, except once against Zimbabwe, Irelend and BD.

Pakistan need few top order batsman who can able to score at least @80% to 90% striking rate! Over the last few years Pak batsman start at 50% SR & try to finish at 80% which does not help the cause. So Pak needs few batsman with the ability of start at 80% SR and try to finish it round about 100% to 110% striking rate!!

Mr. Chairman take quick decision, he is good test bcs slow betting, he will perform there but not suitable for ODI. For the sake cricket choose new captain before we suffered huge losses in w/c 2018 they way Misbah is now crying.

@COORS LIGHT It is very simple really; just look at the ODI records for Bangladesh. I would not advise you to check the Tests records, as you might get a heart attack. Remember, there is no smoke without fire. BD is a minnow, just like Australia is not a minnow. Facts speak for themselves.
