PESHAWAR, Sept 25: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the NWFP government has been focusing on promoting education by using better management techniques.

Talking to US Ambassador Nancy Powell who called on him at the Governor’s House here on Thursday, the governor said a couple of years ago a lot of infrastructure was developed in the education sector through foreign funded projects, but due to lack of resources educational institutions faced 25% deficiency regarding teaching staff.

Such a situation, he added, convinced the government to  revitalize the Frontier Education Foundation through which almost 13 degree colleges were established in 13 months.

In this connection, he added, an endowment fund was created and institutions were established which were functioning quite successfully.

Encouraged by the working of the foundation, he said, the government launched another organization, the Frontier Elementary Education Foundation to focus on the promotion of school level education.

In this regard Mr Shah welcomed the assistance being extended by the US to improve educational facilities in the NWFP and in Fata.
