PTCL: Councillor Noor Mohammad of union council Dambalo, Matli taluka, Badin district has accused the PTCL of discrimination against telephone subscribers of Sakhi Pir Usman village in respect of granting new connections.
Speaking at a news conference at the local press club here on Thursday, he said a 300-line digital telephone exchange had been set up in Dambalo which was only at a distance of 5 kilometres from Pir Sakhi Usman Shah village.
He said according to the feasibility report, telephone connections were to be provided to villages located within 6 kilometres distance.
He said some villages were provided this facility but his village was ignored. The councillor said only one kilometre cable was required but the PTCL refused to provide cable. He said 27 villagers had applied for telephone connections out of which only eight connections were given through worn out wires.
He said at least seven telephones out of eight remained out of order everyday due to the substandard material.
Noor Mohammad said he had met the divisional engineer, general manager and other senior officers of PTCL at Karachi but in vain.
Councillor Noor Mohammad demanded of the federal minister for communication, Awais Laghari, and chairman PTCL to resolve the problem without delay and provide new telephone connections to the villagers as envisaged in the feasibility report.
