PESHAWAR, Sept 23: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that anti-MMA elements have been conspiring to weaken the Frontier government but pledged to fight them out.
Speaking at a meeting of MMA’s parliamentary party in the Frontier Assembly, he said the focus of his government’s policies was people’s welfare.
The chief minister said the MMA was committed to upholding democratic traditions. However, he added, since the MMA legislators were inexperienced the alliance was facing hardships in achieving its objectives.
Referring to distribution of funds for development schemes, he said the government had given an equal amount of funds to all members of the provincial assembly.
“I was a member of opposition in the past and was never given a single penny for the development work,” he added.
Mr Durrani said his government was making all out efforts to restore the sanctity of Madaris and mosques. “We are not scared and we will not change our stated position. We will foil all conspiracies against Madaris and mosques,” he vowed.
He said the MMA knew who was conspiring against Madaris and mosques and added that it would frustrate their nefarious designs.
The chief minister said people had voted for the MMA’s manifesto and the government would not let them down. He called upon the MPAs not to involve themselves in carrying out postings and transfers which, he added, was being done on merit.
He said the law and order situation was improving and added that his government had provided relief to people in shape of a marked improvement in curbing crimes.
“We have a three-pronged approach; to take the district governments on board, to give respect to legislators and to get provincial rights,” he stressed.
The chief minister held out an assurance that justice would be provided to all and sundry, and declared that he would step down if he failed.
He called upon the MMA’s MPAs to respect the opposition members.
Senior Minister Sirajul Haq, Law Minister Zafar Azam and Senator Prof Ibrahim also spoke.
