KARACHI, Sept 23: The additional district and sessions judge, Malir, Kabeer Ahmed Leghari, has issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Mohajir Qaumi Movement chairman Afaq Ahmed in a murder case.
The party’s secretary-general, Amir Khan, MPA Younus Khan and workers, Danish, Babar alias Babri and Imtiaz Koti, are in custody in the case pertaining to the killing of a taxi driver.
The judge fixed Oct 2 for the next hearing and issued orders for the production of accused Babri and Koti, presently lodged in the Jacobabad jail.
According to the charge-sheet, Babar was arrested for killing the cab driver and during interrogation he confessed to having committed the offence on the insistence of the party’s leadership.
#CONVICTED:# The district and sessions judge, South, Agha Rafique Ahmed, sentenced a bandit to seven years rigorous imprisonment.
The judge imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on Mohammed Hiyat, who would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment in case of default on the payment.
The accused was booked for robbing and injuring Mohammed Jamil on Oct 7, 2000, by the Mehmoodabad police.
The court had earlier awarded him the same sentence. The accused, however, appealed to the Sindh High Court, which remanded back the case to the trial court.
#SENTENCED:# The additional district and sessions judge, West, Sagheer Rana, sentenced four robbers to 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
Accused Shamsher Ali, Mohammed Iqbal and Tariq Aziz were arrested red-handed on Dec 14, 2002, as they were fleeing after looting Riyazullah in Saeedabad.
The judge fined them Rs50,000 each and ordered that the defaulter would have to undergo an additional six-month term.
#BAIL GRANTED:# The additional district and sessions judge, East, Abdul Maalik, granted bail to a worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in a murder case.
Shadab Landhiwala, booked for killing Waqar Ahmed in Landhi on March 24, 2000, was granted bail in the sum of Rs200,000.
