QUETTA, Sept 20: The Frontier Corps, Balochistan, has seized 3000 kilograms of drugs and illegal arms and ammunition from Bramchah area of the Chagai district on Saturday.
On a tip-off, the FC staff moved into the Baramchah area of the Chagai district close to the Pakistan-Afghan border and recovered 3000 kg of fine quality morphine and arms and ammunition on Friday night.
“The morphine and arms consignment were brought to Baramchah from Helmend province of Afghanistan for its smuggling abroad via the Makran Coast,” an officer of the Frontier Corps said. He said the bumper crop of opium in southern provinces of Afghanistan has increased the smuggling of drugs.
The value of the seized drugs was estimated at Rs300 million, he said.
No arrest could be made as armedmen guarding the consignment escaped from the scene without offering resistance.
The arms and ammunition seized during the raid were: 80 rockets of different makes, 51 grenades, 43 bombs, 82 millimeter mortar and 60 millimeter mortar, several thousands of rounds, 2 Kalashnikovs, sub-machineguns and magazines.
