PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has asked the PTI workers to start preparing for the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The chief minister stated this while talking to a delegation of PTI office-bearers and elders from Pashtun Garhi area at the CM Secretariat here on Monday.
The delegation led by PTI local president Gulab Khan apprised the CM of the problems of the people, according to a handout.
Mr Khattak said that the district and tehsil council elections would be held on party basis, while that of the village and local councils on non-party lines so that unity of people at village and mohallah level remained intact while a pure political leadership emerged at the tehsil and district levels to carry out development projects.
Mr Khattak claimed that the elections and emerging LG bodies would prove as nurseries for real politics and democracy due to new and transparent system evolved by the KP government.
He said that the LG system was key to solving local problems.
The chief minister said that the PTI-led government had allocated Rs4 billion for a mega project of building protection spurs along both sides of the rivers passing through fertile valleys of Charsadda, Peshawar and Nowshera districts.
He said the project would be completed by next year to ensure safety of villages and large populations as well as precious crops and livestock.
Similarly, he said that solid measures were also being taken to streamline the affairs of agriculture, forestry, mines, mineral, irrigation and public health engineering departments to yield maximum output and benefit people.
About a demand of rehabilitating the vendors affected by the anti-encroachment drives in Peshawar, the chief minister said that ‘Sasta Bazaars’ were being established to accommodate all these vendors and cabin holders.
He said huge plots were being acquired on the outskirts of the city for the purpose.
Likewise, he said work on establishment of a car city had also been expedited to shift all bargain centres there.
He said both the measures would greatly contribute towards freeing up space on the roads and in the bazaars of the city to ensure smooth passage of traffic and pedestrians.
