Paris attack: Police commissioner kills himself after meeting victim’s family

A French police commissioner, Helric Fredou, has reportedly killed himself after meeting relatives of a victim murdered in the attack on France's weekly satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Fredou was found dead in his office the night militants had carried out attack on the magazine’s office, a report published by Independent said.
According to a television station, France 3, the police commissioner had shot himself in his office in Limoges, a city in central France, the report said.
France 3 reported that the police commissioner was single and had no children, describing him as ‘depressed’ and overworked.
Fredou began his police career in 1997 and had been the deputy director of the regional police since 2012.
Twelve people were shot dead — including a Muslim cop Ahmed Merabet — when two militants had stormed into the Charlie Hebdo offices in reaction to disrespectful cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) published by the magazine.

Well, that is France. In Pakistan, nobody in the Government gets depressed. In fact one of our main leaders got married days after visiting the site of massacre of 132 children and after meeting their mothers. Our leaders are made of a different material.

The failure of the Police department in Paris to detect the terror lead to the suicide of the French Police Commission, although, he was not at fault at all, but this happened in his watch and he felt humiliated.
The the government and politicians should learn from the case of French Police Commission. I would not recommend our politicians to commit suicide because of their failure to perform, but they should feel humiliated and resign if fail.

France need more stable people without depression to handle tough jobs; they will be better off hiring from NYC police or from Pakistan to handle tough situation. You can control the terrorists, BUT who is controlling the magazine who is fueling and generating the terrorists? Shame on French judicial system, they shut down the magazine talking bad about Judaism and encourage magazine talking filth against Islam. Even Israel does not allow such filth and hatred regarding Islam inside Israel. Every one should condole the dead and discourage terrorists, same token every one should block these extremist magazine fueling terrorism.

@noman: Fishy indeed in the perception of us Pakistani people who see hundreds of such terrorists attacks carried out day in day out under the watch of many security agencies yet no head roles. Taking the responsibility is unheard of in our culture yet hearing some one taking his/her life over the guilt of not being able to protect citizen's life should surely sound fishy to us.

I think it is a murder case rather suicide attack. Most likely he was aware of the background conspiracy of this attack and could disclose hence he was eliminated.

In India, politicians and GOVT officials try to "cover up" and "belittle" incidences of rape, murder of common Indians. Taking responsibility..unheard of, blaming others is the name of the game. I bet same for Pakistan and all other South Asian siblings. How sad...why are we like this?

It speaks volume of how people in position of responsibility concern themselves as if it was his failure that lead to loss of lives of innocent people giving up his own life in the cause. The politicians for personal benefits are not prepared to introduce the much needed police reforms.

Our officials, ministers etc; should learn from this ? In our case, we have no such word as " resign" let alone taking ones life ( Islam does not permit suicide), but at least, we do not own it, nor we accept failure under ones watch nor we accept responsibility nor have the morality to accept weakness in our system or is this the system ? Yes! but we do like to get fat pay checks, perks etc; at tax payers account....

wow, sheer act of self conscious and respecting the society norms he was brought up ... he could not offer society / country for what he was prepared for and how deeply sad he must be until he breathed last. such people show how strongly they love and respect mutually, each other and how dignified they live.... no matter what, but this guys shows how important is his job and how bigger picture he was having in his heart about the country he lived in..... wow, bravo.
Shahbaz Shareef at least show some self-respect and resign voluntarily at least keeping in view the Model Town hand picked killing.... you were not involved, we accept that. don't you think its a moral obligation if at all you can think like and be remembered as someone who showed self-conscious. ?

People are smelling a conspiracy here. What they have never experienced is a person's remorse when they fail on their duty. Pakistan is a place where no one feels guilty when they fail to perform or kill people. Lack of remorse is what originates issues.
When something goes wrong, there are multiple ways in which someone can live in denial.
- Spawn conspiracy theories ... There must be a foreign hand in the incident or somebody else responsible.
- Disown the culprit ... Attackers are not us, our community and beliefs doesn't permit it. We are different.
- Seek a parallel ... Did anyone get punished when blah incident happened in blah land.
- Take solace in unrelated events ... so what, 100 gets killed in blah land everyday.
And denial doesn't help.

@Usman No, Old Ravian is right. The tragedy happened in KPK, Imran's province. While he and CM Khattak were busy doing dharnas and jalsa's all over the country, disrupting the life of the common man, wasting money and causing stampedes. If it was only that we could forgive him but then to go ahead and get married!! He did not even wait 40 days! that's how much h was affected by it. Shameful!

This could be called a sense of responsibility and honor. Only those can behave like that who are at apex of their job-loyalty. Unfortunately, no one takes responsibility in Pakistan for any mishap, either it was a cowardish act of terrorism in school (Peshawar: 142 martyred) or a deadly road collision (Karachi: 62 killed). No single authority has held responsible yet because our overall system lacks the 'check-n-balance.' Few days mourning, some heated debates in talk shows by ham-actors and then nothing. Who will feel the pain of affected families?

There seems to be something else behind the curtains. Quite possible that it was a disguise under the garb of Islam. Someone else took the opportunity of the sensitive situation. A man of his rank and his burden of work would never commit suicide and that too in his office. Am not going to buy this lie.

Afte this news , I have my doubts that the whole incidence could be all set up , after 7/7 London bombing the London met police chief resign himself and was completely washed off the media , his interview on YouTube said a lot about 7/7 , EU is trying every effort to minimise it's dependence from middle east or other parts of the world

He was single with no children, overworked and depressed as such. These were the main contributing factors of his
suicide. And the meeting with relatives of victims proved the sparking point. He was No way to be blamed. Rest in peace all
