KARACHI: Man killed in accident

KARACHI, Sept 12: A man died in a road traffic accident in Site on Friday.

Police said that Suliman Shaikh, 30, was travelling on his motorcycle (RAN-9227) when he was knocked down by a speeding minibus of route (F-3) near Siemens Chowrangi, Site.

The victim died on spot, his body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the postmortem examination.

Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver, Nasir Khan, from the spot.

DIES: The body of an unidentified man was recovered from a locked house in Defence View township on Friday. Police said the house had been locked for a considerable period of time.

Police suspect that the dead man might have scaled the wall of the house for consuming drugs, as he the body seemed to be that of a heroin addict.

DIES: A teenage girl died of burns in Pak Colony on Friday.

Police said that Kulsoom, 15, had suffered serious burns while working in the kitchen of her house in Pak Colony. She was taken to the burns ward of the Civil Hospital where she died during treatment.

SEIZED: The Preventive Collectorate Customs seized 9000 kg of betel-nuts by intercepting a truck on RCD Highway on Friday.

A spokesman for the customs said that raiding party intercepted a truck bearing fake registration plates (LSC-1678) loaded with 114 gunny bags containing 9000 kg of betel-nuts hidden beneath onion bags.

A suspect was arrested on charge of smuggling of betel nuts.

An FIR of the case was lodged in the Court of Special Judge (Customs & Taxation), Karachi, spokesman added.

CLARIFICATION: According to a clarification issued on Friday by the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate, Naval Headquarters, Lt Hilal Ahmed Ansari bravely snatched the gun from the robber and fired upon the robber.

The press release stated that it was reported that Lt Hilal fired on the robber with his pistol, whereas according to the FIR lodged, the officer snatched the gun from the robber.
