KARACHI, Sept 9 : The city government has started repair and refurbishment of its old and non-functional vehicles.

Loaders, dumpers and heavy machineries worth millions of rupees have been lying at the city government’s workshop for the past 10 years. In the first phase two dumpers and several vehicles have been made operative at a cost of Rs2.6 million, and the tenders for repair of more vehicles have been invited for the second phase.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Monday inaugurated the rescue centre where a pool of machineries and vehicles has been set up. From this pool various departments will get vehicles and machineries in emergency situations.

The Nazim directed that a complete record be maintained with regard to exit and entry of vehicles from the workshop and release of petrol and diesel.

He called for a complete list of old vehicles and vehicles which can be repaired at a low cost. He expressed the hope that with the repair of these vehicles the city government would save millions of rupees.

SEWING MACHINES: The Nazim also performed the inauguration of distribution of 501 sewing machines among poor and deserving women.—APP
