ISLAMABAD: Pakistan posted a surplus of more than 116 per cent in trade with North America in 2012-13 as its exports exceeded imports by over $2 billion.

The region, especially the United States, has emerged as a leading exports destination for Pakistan’s products on the back of a string of facilitation measures taken in the last decade.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan’s exports to North America stood at $3.873bn in FY13 as against $3.854bn in FY12, reflecting a marginal increase of 0.52pc. Imports from North America grew by 4.63pc to $1.787bn in 2012-13 compared with $1.708bn in the previous year.

In the past decade, the United States, with 91 per cent average share, was the largest destination for Pakistan’s exports, followed Canada and Mexico.
