KARACHI, Sept 8: Scores of houses in Federal B Area’s Block 20 were being supplied contaminated water for the last one month and all complaints of the affected residents in this regard remain unheeded so far.

The residents of the affected locality said that although a number of houses, starting from House No R-141, had been getting filthy water for more than a month, the officials concerned of the city government’s water and sanitation department failed to take measures to rectify the fault despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

“Is it not amazing that whenever we remind the W&S department officials of the lingering contaminated water problem, they tell us that they will replace their pipeline once the funds required for it are approved by the competent officials,” a resident of the locality remarked, adding that such an utterance on the part of the W&S officials showed that how indifferent they were towards the problems faced by their consumers.

SHORTAGE: Various houses in Federal B Area’s Block 2 (Hussainabad) have been deprived of water for the last one-and-a-half month.

Residents of the affected houses regretted that although water supply to a number of houses in the locality, starting from House No 72/2, had been suspended since last week of July, the officials concerned had not bothered to restore the supply, as a result of which they were compelled to consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from the residents of Clifton’s Block 2.

GUTTERS OVERFLOW: Sewage gushing from some chocked gutters has spread on a number of streets of PECHS block 2, near Tariq Road’s Rehmania Masjid.

Residents of the affected locality complained although the gutters had been overflowing for the last four days, the concerned officials of water and sanitation department had not taken measures to clear the chocked sewerage lines, despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

The worst sufferers are the pedestrians and those visiting the Rehmania Masjid as they have no choice but to wade through dirty water, which was causing stink in the locality.
