VEHARI, Sept 7: A father of nine grown-up boys and girls who allegedly killed one of his daughters last year, on Sunday shot dead his estranged wife and five of his in-laws in a village near Luddan, some 35 kilometres from here.

Police said that Bashir Ahmed of Jamal Kamal village contracted second marriage seven months ago. The move annoyed Faizan Bibi, his first wife, who moved to her parents’ in Kot Sadaat village.

Bashir had been trying to patch up with Faizan Bibi but failed to bring her back. On Sunday morning, Bashir and his half a dozen accomplices entered the house of his father-in-law Ahmed Bukhsh and opened fire on the inmates, killing six of them instantly. Later, the assailants managed to escape from the scene.

Those killed were Ahmed Bukhsh, his wife Elahi Bibi, daughters Faizan Bibi, Ghulam Fatima, son Ramzan and relative Khizar Hussain. The bodies were handed over to their relatives after post-mortem.

Accused Bashir Ahmed is the father of nine children, including five daughters.

Luddan SHO told Dawn that a case had been registered against the accused under sections 302 and 324 PPC while police were conducting raids to arrest the killers.

However, police have arrested some close friends and relatives of the main accused for interrogation.

Police said the accused was also involved in the murder of his married daughter in Mian Channu about a year ago. They said that a police party had also been sent to Mian Channu.

SEALED: Several clinics and medical stores were sealed in Burewala on Saturday for selling spurious medicines.

A team, headed by a drug inspector, conducted raids under the supervision of the Vehari district health office.

The team also collected samples of medicines which were sent to the Punjab Quality Control Board for analysis.

Talking to Dawn, the drug inspector said that challans would be submitted to the Punjab drug court for legal action against the accused if the samples were found substandard.

He said the action would be taken against those selling medicines without license and those involved in selling and purchasing spurious medicines.

Among the sealed clinics and medical stores were Mangol Medical Store, Javed Medical Store, Ali Medical Store Khaliq Medical Store, Shabbir Clinic, Azam Clinic, Ejaz Clinic, Maqbool Clinic and Mansha Clinic.

He said the raids were conducted on the complaints of the people.
