MIRPURKHAS, Sept 7: A large number of growers held a protest demonstration and a sit-in in Kunri on Sunday to protest against the water shortage in their area.
The protesters marched through the main roads of the town.
They raised slogans against the XEN, Mithrao, Faiz Mohammad Memon, and the director, Nara Canal Area Water Board, Agha Aijaz, for creating an artificial water shortage in the area.
They told newsmen that the director, Nara Canal Area Water Board, Agha Aijaz, was responsible for the artificial shortage of water in the command area of the Mithrao Canal.
They demanded that the Sindh chief minister, Sindh governor and the secretary, irrigation, take notice of the excesses of the officials concerned regarding the supply of water.
sanitary conditions: The sanitary conditions of the city has not improved despite the appointment of many sweepers as garbage could be seen lying on the roads and streets and overflowing sewage at various places.
Some months ago, the Taluka Municipal Administration, Mirpurkhas, had appointed 92 people as sweepers.
Sources at the Taluka Municipal Administration, Mirpurkhas, said that the majority of the sweepers were appointed after receiving illegal gratification.
The permission was given by the then minister for local bodies, Mohammad Hussain Khan, during his visit to Mirpurkhas where the Taluka Nazim, Syed Inayat Ali Shah, had apprised him that there was an acute shortage of sweepers.
Instead of the sweepers being utilized for cleaning the city, they were posted in various departments, including the Taluka Municipal Administration, fire brigade, health branch, pumping stations, public health engineering department, Union Council No1, No2, No4, No5, No6, No7 and No8.
