ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has discovered oil in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh, a press release said on Wednesday. This is the second oil discovery by OGDCL in two months.

The discovery has been made from exploratory well Jarwar-I in NIM Block, which is 95pc owned by OGDCL and 5pc by Government Holding (Pvt) Limited (GHPL).

The structure of the well was delineated, drilled and tested by using OGDCL’s in-house expertise. The well was drilled down to the depth of 1,473 metres, targeting to test the hydrocarbon potential of Upper Sand of Lower Goru Formation.

Muhammad Rafi, the managing director and CEO of OGDCL, said the company reached the 100th landmark of hydrocarbon well discovery at Soghri-1 located in district Attock under the Soghri Exploration Licence in September this year.

Soghri Well is currently producing 220 barrels per day of condensate and delivers 17 million cubic feet of gas per day. OGDCL contributes 55pc of Pakistan’s oil output and 30pc of natural gas. Its annual tax payments amount to around Rs50 billion.
