QUETTA, Sept 6: Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Naeem Kakar on Friday sentenced a former project director of the communications and works department in absentia to three years imprisonment for not appearing in the hearing of a reference. The court sentenced the ex-official, Mohammad Khan Mengal, in a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau.
IRAQI’S PLEA: A Balochistan High Court division bench disposed of the application of an Iraqi prisoner when the deputy attorney-general and the provincial advocate-general informed it that the applicant would be shifted to the Adyala prison, Rawalpindi.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani had taken notice of the application of the Iraqi citizen, Mohsin Ali, who had been sentenced to 20 days imprisonment but was still in the Mach central jail despite the passage of more than two years.
The applicant submitted that he had completed the sentence and now his detention was unlawful, therefore, he should be sent to his country.
The state lawyers told the court that the applicant and other foreigners who had completed their imprisonment terms would be shifted from the Mach prison to the Adyala jail and the federal government would process the cases.
