KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Wednesday demanded that a fresh census be carried out in the country, DawnNews reported.

Speaking at a press conference at MQM headquarters Nine Zero over telephone from London, he said the process of census is carried out throughout the world consistently, adding that nonoccurrence of the process produces problems.

Commenting on ongoing political spat between MQM and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Hussain said if the ruling party in Sindh has reservations in carving out new administrative units then create Sindh-1 and Sindh-2.

“With introduction of quota system in 1973, Sindh-1 and Sindh-2 have already been created,” he added referring to prevailing urban and rural divide in the province.

The MQM chief warned the rulers against public backlash if ‘oppressors’ were not stopped from carrying out atrocities. However, he changed his tone quickly and vowed that his party would protect life and property of Sindhi nationals on their own.

“Sometimes a little spark can turn into a full blown war even world war,” said Hussain, threatening against repercussions of atrocities being carried out against his party.

“58 per cent masses are compelled to live a life worst than slaves and servants in the country.”

The MQM chief complained about attitude of some Sindhi nationals towards his people, saying MQM activists were finding it difficult to step out of their homes. He urged law enforcement agencies to stop the ‘oppressors’.
