Another Pakistani beheaded in Saudi Arabia for 'smuggling' heroin

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday beheaded a Pakistani man, the interior ministry said, bringing to almost 60 the number of executions in the kingdom this year.
Mohammad Yunus Mohammed Shoaib, executed in the Eastern Province community of Qatif, “was caught smuggling a large quantity of heroin into the kingdom inside his gut,” the ministry said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
His decapitation takes to 57 the number of people executed by sword in the conservative Gulf nation this year, compared with 78 people in all of 2013, according to an AFP count.
On Tuesday a Saudi, Hamad bin Awadh bin Hawi Al-Anzi, was executed in northern Jawf region “because he smuggled a large quantity of amphetamine pills into the kingdom,” SPA said.

The Interior Ministry said the government “is keen on combating narcotics due to their great harm to individuals and the society."
A United Nations independent expert in September called for an immediate moratorium on the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.
Christof Heyns, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, said trials “are by all accounts grossly unfair” and defendants are often not allowed a lawyer.
He said confessions were obtained under torture.
Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are all punishable by death under Saudi Arabia's version of Islamic sharia law.

I am not against death penalty, but I have no faith on saudi justice system, they do whatever they want however they want, they don't care if it's right or wrong or even is acording to Sharia. Who says they follow all Sharia laws when sentencing an individual. They should open their justice system to the world if they are doing it right.

poor guy, he want to make money somehow to carry on his responsibilities either he made for himself or brought upon him through his family.
had he been educated and find some profession he must not have been ended like this, just a wild guess as the article doesn't say anything about those details.

Worst Justice system & GOVT on the planet. These people are ruthless. How can you behead someone even if they smuggled drugs. Yes, they should be punished but not killed. They need to study prophet. Even he forgave his worst enemies when he conquer Makka.

All these Arab kingdoms are the most hypocrite places in the world. They barbarically kill a poor man for drug smuggling & yet the princes & princesses of these royal Arabs can get whatever drugs they want any time. Put the guy behind bars for 5-10 years but to end his life like that is inhuman.

There is empirical evidence to show that capital punishments have no discernible effect on deterrence rates and yet you support this cruel medieval form of barbarity. It is ugly; it is demeaning. Human life has more value.

Well, it would be nice to know about the background of the person who was smuggling. What made him take such a risk and maybe he was forced by circumstances or ignorance. I have met mothers in Rahim Yar Khan who sold their children for camel racing so they could feed the other. And God knows better.

Unfortunately most of these guys are victims of drug mafia which involves security officials, politicians and smugglers in Pakistan and when they travel to Saudi Arabia, they face such a grave consequence.It has been stated by an official who is working in Saudi courts after several interrogations from such criminals..Usually these are poor people who are either blackmailed or face threat to their families back in Pakistan at hands of drug mafia.It is individual as well as collective responsibility for all of us to protect people from such dangerous activities.Government officials in Pakistan responsible to stop this drug trafficking are ether sleeping, negligent or someway or the other part of drug mafia network..In Saudi Arabia, they dont spare anyone from punishment once convicted by court irrespective of nationality.
One more important fact is that majority of these criminals who are involved in this drug trafficking are afghans holding Pakistani passports and bad name comes to Pakistan. What a shame

Death Penalty is only for certain crimes of which drug smuggling is not included. There was a case where a Pakistani family was almost murdered by Saudis because of some drugs they were mistakenly implicated with. That issue was resolved thankfully and the precious life was spared. Similarly they murdered some Indonesian maids for a accidental death of an infant in her care.

There are different laws in different countries. When we Muslims doesn't stop the western media to promote nudity and industries like "porn" in their country and bringing it on google for the rest of the world to see. who are we to talk about the Muslim justice system ? If this guy has known the laws of the country and still went out to take this risk, It was completely his choice, no matter what ever the circumstances,one individual or his/her family is going through,financially,emotionally. You can not smuggle drugs. Yes i agree, the Saudi justice system is hardly a system its a bunch of loose old thugs. As a Muslim i think he did a bad thing which resulted into slaughtering the pain he had taken today is going to make sure that he will get a better place in life here after, This is where believes and faith comes in. May his soul rest in peace Ameen.

@hanif smile Hanif I have lived in Saudi Arabia for 30 years as a physician before moving to US. Several years ago there was robbery in my house by a Saudi. 5 days later robber was caught and 9 days late on the day of Juma his right hand was amputated. I would say Alhamdollilah for these punishment otherwise this would be another Pakistan. Honestly I don't believe we as a Pakistani have any right to pass judgment on any country. Unless we become a better country.

Deterrence always work, at every level.
Historically punishments like incarceration has not reduced crime rate in America.
American prison system is overloaded, increased repeat crimes, does not provide enough deterrence, it is a huge burden on the tax payer, & many prisoners become more violent & engage in sodomy.
some prisoners convert to Islam also, during their time in prison, which is a good thing.

how many Pakistanis have been be-headed until now in Saudi for smuggling heroin and other related such substance.... can you please try and put some figures altogether say in last 10 years....? do we have such data ?.
further, I have observed most of the Paki culprits are caught when they travel from Pakistan. So, where does our authorities are trying to control this menace...... ?

This is typical of how every Pakistani wants to get rich overnight. It saddens me to hear news such as that but the fact is that ONLY Pakistanis are caught smuggling drugs. Why don't we hear any Indians doing the same?. I guess the reason is that they work hard to get good grades in school, college, university and when they get a job, they even work harder to get to the top of the organisation they work for. We were the same nation less than 70 years ago but how did Pakistanis learn to do all kinds of illegal things and at the same time the world is opening its doors to young Indians by relaxing visas requirements. Do we not need to think about that?
