In an advertisement printed in Pakistani newspapers on Friday, the Australian government warned readers against getting duped by people smugglers claiming they can transport them to Australian waters in hopes of getting asylum.
Written in bold at the top of the advertisement are the words: “NO WAY. You will not make Australia home.”
“If you get on a boat without a visa , you will not end up in Australia. Any vessel seeing to illegally enter Australia will be intercepted and safely removed beyond Australian waters,” reads the advertisement.
It adds that the rules apply to all: “Families, children, unaccompanied children, educated and skilled”.
The ad is worded in English, Urdu, Pashto, Dari, and Hazargi languages.
“No matter who you are or where you are from, you will not make Australia home. Think again before you waste your money. People smugglers are lying,” warns the Australian government.
The advertisement is part of a campaign “Operation Sovereign Borders”, a military-led border security initiative by the government to combat maritime people smuggling and protect Australia’s borders.
“Australia is serious about protecting its borders and will stop anyone who attempts to come illegally by boat…[People] should not believe the lies of smugglers and there is no way they will make Australia home," warns the government on the OSB website.
Australia has toughened its policy on asylum-seekers in recent years, with those arriving on unauthorised boats now refused residency in Australia even if they are deemed refugees.
Instead they are held in detention camps on nearby islands and are expected to be resettled in those countries if their claims are valid.
The Australian government has come under increased scrutiny for its treatment of asylum seekers, but the government claims its policies are meant to prevent people risking their lives at sea.

Well - Who ever from Australian embassy/consulate has posted this, needs to be little more intelligent. It should have been posted in Urdu and in an Urdu newspaper. A person reading English newspaper in Pakistan is an educated person who will not think to enter your esteemed country illegally.

Instead of seeking economic refuge in foreign, Pakistanis better take full active parts in the present political campaigns to clean the country of elitism, corruption, nepotism, sectarian divisions and other socio-political evils. Pakistan is no less better that western countries if only the people remain united and eradicate the evils and selfish rulers who are eating away our golden country.

The concern Pakistan Government please we demand that all outsiders who lives in our cities have to be apprihaqnded and shunted out of Pakistan, because they are in involved in terrorism as well as in crime.
The agreement which was done between UNHCR, Afghanistan and Pakistan have to be canceled and we should not accept any request from United Nations or any other foreign countries. Please see the report that they claiming that they are big supporter of human rights and many Pakistani are in detention center in bad condition.
All the illegal people who came into Pakistan without any legal documents have to be shunted out as soon as possible.
Do we have any self respect, is there any one in the government who can do all the necessary arrangements for those who are held in detention center near by island.
I request again that we should not extend the agreement anymore with UNHCR or any other country.

Not only Australia, countries like uk, Canada, USA and Western European nations will not take asylum seekers. Specially if they are from Islamic countries. Assylum seekers from Greece, South African or zimbawayian whites and even Russia are not treated in the same way as Sri Lankans, Indonesian, Iranians are treated by Australia.

This is not right. Australians are forgetting how much Pakistani diaspora has contributed to their economy. They should seek advise from other commonwealth/NATO nations. Where would UK NHS be without our doctors ? Or IBM,Google,Microsoft etc without our engineers ? You will see hardworking Pakistanis everywhere in Scandanavian countries. It is Australia's loss and world's gain.

The newspapers should refuse to publish this hateful advert, there are better ways to write this, and most people fleeing to Aus are not Pakistani but Afghans and others using Pakistan as a transit point.

Australia is talking about illegal immigrants and human traficking. I as a Pakistani agree with them - this should stop. There are legal ways to enter another country which Australia is encouraging. Second, Pakistan should improve human rights conditions thus allowing its citizens to live in peace and dignity. Look how we treat our household helpers not to mention others.

I am living in Australia and have seen many other countries believe me I will suggest my other countrymen do not come to Australia there is no job and even if you find a job there is no carrier progression. Due to small population and bad government policies there is not much scope for small businesses. Australia is a third world countries of the Western World. Far far behind than USA, France and Germany.

Australia has one of the world’s highest per capita income. Its HDI (Google up if you do not know what HDI is. If you do not know what Google is, there is no hope) is number 2 in the world (oh yes, much higher than USA, France and Germany). When world was under GFC, Australia was booming. I migrated to Australia 5 years back and living the dream now. Instead of finding fault with everyone, maybe try to get out of the ghetto mentality first, respect the lifestyle & healthcare you have been lucky to have, make some local friends. Job and life will surely follow.

There is one more thing to remember: when Pakistani or other Asian students look for jobs, they are descriminated against.
The most outrageous thing is that European and American students have a lot of respect there but most of Europeans and Americans are NON FEE PAYING STUDENTS - they are studying there on exchange programs!!! but there are no exchange programs for Asians.
Asians should stop feeding the education system of Australia and other countries who have little respect for them.
