WTO moot: govt may finalize plan today

ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: The government is likely to finalize a strategy here on Wednesday for negotiations at the forthcoming ministerial conference at Cancun, Mexico.

A senior official at the Ministry of Commerce told Dawn on Tuesday that the strategy would be evolved in the inter-ministerial committee on WTO appointed by the government recently.

The meeting to be chaired by Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan will be attended by senior officials the ministries concerned.

According to the official, the commerce minister would brief the meeting about Pakistan’s views on the issues to be discussed at the Cancun meeting, particularly on the agriculture negotiations.

During the meeting relevant stakeholders would discuss pros and cons of the ongoing negotiations at Cancun and its impact on Pakistan.
