ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: The government on Monday approved the new income tax return forms for individuals, association of persons (AOPs) and companies with minor changes in it.

According to the income tax notification issued here on Tuesday, the wealth statement would now be submitted by all non-salary taxpayers irrespective of quantum of income.

Earlier wealth statement was submitted by only those taxpayers whose income exceeds Rs200,000. However, the salaried taxpayers would continue to get the benefit of filing of wealth statement in case their income exceeded Rs200,000.

Member direct taxes Vakil Ahmed Khan said the notification and the forms were available on the CBR website — www.cbr.gov.pk.

After the promulgation of Income Tax Ordinance 2001, he said, it had become necessary to notify the return forms in order to cater to the requirements of the new ordinance.

He said the finance minister, however, desired that except for unavoidable additions, no change might be made in the existing forms. The new forms are almost similar to the previous ones and the minor changes made therein are of only editorial nature, he added.
