KARACHI, Sept 1: While various PML(Q) Sindh bodies, including labour and women wings, have been dissolved, offices of district presidents and secretaries, as well as provincial council and working committee of the party, are still intact.
This was stated by Senator Nisar A. Memon, convener of the five-member organizing committee of the party in his first press conference at Muslim League House here on Monday.
Nisar Memon said that the organizing committee had been set up to strengthen the party in Sindh and has been assigned to submit its recommendations within 90 days.
He informed that the committee will work for the revival of membership of party workers, whether their membership is old or few. For this purpose, new forms and counter-foils have been provided by the party. The workers would also be issued proper identity cards.
He said so far they have visited three districts in Karachi and after completing the work, they would be visiting interior of Sindh.
He said it has been decided that during their visits to districts, the committee would meet the respective presidents and party workers. Those who are not in the PML, would also be invited to the PML fold.
He referred to complaints received from party workers that their problems were not being resolved. He said that the committee would chalk out a procedure for providing protection to party workers and to solve their genuine problems.
Nisar Memon said that he would ensure that PML ministers also sit in the Muslim League House to resolve the workers problems.
He told a questioner that nowhere it had been stated whether the committee would be a temporary one or a permanent body. It had been given three months to frame and submit its recommendations to strengthen the party in Sindh, he explained.
To a question that certain elements in the party have expressed their reservations on the membership drive, Sahibzada Munir, a member of the organizing committee, said that in a luncheon meeting held at the residence of Maqbool Shaikh on Sunday, it was clarified that the committee was not carrying out any such drive.
He said only membership of old and new workers was being revived and party ID cards were being issued to them. He said the membership would be carried out by district presidents.
To a question about party’s stand on water issue, he said that President Pervez Musharraf had candidly explained the whole situation and had set up technical and political committees to deal with the technical and political aspects of the issue.
He said after the formation of these two committees, the sentimental attitudes towards the issue should subside as the issue had been depoliticized.
He said after the two committees submit their reports, there would be a further communication on the issue. He said it was clear that the 1991 accord be comprehensively implemented.
He observed that there could be differences on the interpretation of the provisions of the 1991 accord, but these would also be addressed by the technical committee.
Nisar Memon declared that the PML(Q) would fully safeguard the interests of Sindh and its people.
He said that the President had approved a Rs 29 billion development package for Karachi and the organizing committee would also submit its recommendations on a similar package for rural areas.
Regarding rural areas of Karachi, he said the Nazim Karachi would be approached for their development.
Azad Bin Hyder and Sahibzada Munir, two other members of the organizing committee also spoke. —APP
