KARACHI, Sept 1: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad formally launched the three-day anti-polio campaign by administering Oral Polio Virus (OPV) to a few kids at Children Hospital, North Karachi, here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor registered his deep concern that presently India, Pakistan and Nigeria were accounting for 99 per cent of “the global burden of polio” while around 50 per cent of polio cases in Pakistan were being reported from the province of Sindh.

Reiterating the government commitment to eradicate the disease, he stressed that collective efforts were the keys to success and emphasized that all citizens must be cognizant of their moral duty in this regard.

Dr Ibad warned that the government would demonstrate zero tolerance against negligence towards the cause of polio eradication.

Sindh Adviser on Health Nauman Sehgal, Additional Secretary Health Muhammad Iqbal Deewan, Dr Midhat from the World Health Organization, and Dr Laila Rizvi from the UNICEF were also present. —APP
